Front Engine Oil Leak Causes in UAE Vehicles (2026)

A front engine oil leak — one originating from the front of the engine near the crankshaft pulley and timing area — is one of the most common oil leak complaints on UAE vehicles. UAE extreme heat accelerates the degradation of every rubber seal and gasket in this area. Identifying the specific source of the leak is important because multiple components in the front engine area can leak simultaneously, and the repair approach differs for each.

Main Causes of Front Engine Oil Leaks in UAE

The crankshaft front seal is a lip-type rubber seal around the crankshaft where it exits the front of the engine. This seal is directly exposed to heat from the engine and from the UAE ambient environment. When it fails, it produces a characteristic oil leak from directly behind the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). The timing cover gasket seals the front engine cover against the engine block and cylinder head. When it hardens and cracks from UAE heat cycles, oil seeps from the gasket joint area around the perimeter of the timing cover. On belt-driven engines (Toyota Camry 4-cyl, Honda, Mitsubishi Pajero V6), the timing belt area has additional seals — the camshaft seals behind the timing belt sprockets. Failed camshaft seals produce oil leaks that can contaminate the timing belt, causing belt degradation and potentially catastrophic engine failure. The oil pump O-ring or gasket (where the oil pump mounts to the front of the engine or is integral with the timing cover) can also leak in UAE high-temperature conditions. On some engines, the oil pump is part of the timing cover assembly.
