Car Oil Leak Diagnosis Guide for UAE Drivers (2026)

Oil leaks on UAE vehicles range from minor seepage that leaves stains in UAE parking bays to significant leaks that can cause rapid oil loss and engine damage if ignored. The UAE climate — particularly the heat that dries out rubber seals and the UV that cracks external rubber components — accelerates oil seal degradation compared to cooler climates. Identifying the source of a leak helps UAE drivers communicate accurately with their garage and understand the repair scope.

Identifying the Type of Fluid

Engine oil is amber to dark brown (black if old), oily to touch, and found under the front half of the vehicle. Gearbox or differential oil is usually thicker, darker, and has a sulphurous smell (this is the extreme-pressure additive). Power steering fluid is typically red or clear, thinner than engine oil, and found near the front of the vehicle under the power steering rack or pump. Coolant is green, pink, or blue and sweet-smelling. Brake fluid is clear to light yellow and feels slimy. Water is clear and is often condensation from the air conditioning draining under the passenger side of the vehicle — this is normal and not a fault.

Common UAE Oil Leak Locations

The valve cover gasket (top of engine, common on high-mileage UAE vehicles), the sump gasket (bottom of engine), the rear crankshaft oil seal (between engine and gearbox, visible as oil coating the bellhousing), the gearbox rear seal (between gearbox and propshaft), and the differential axle seals (at the wheel flange where the driveshaft enters the differential) are the most common leak locations on UAE vehicles. Use GarageBuddy to find UAE garages for oil leak diagnosis and repair.
