Car Handling Problems in UAE: Causes and Fixes (2026)

Poor handling is one of the most common complaints from UAE drivers, yet many do not realise it is caused by fixable mechanical problems rather than a permanently flawed vehicle. This guide covers the most common handling issues in UAE cars and what causes them.

Common Handling Problems and Their Causes

The most frequent handling complaints from UAE drivers, and their typical causes, are as follows.

Car pulls to one side: Uneven tyre pressure (extremely common in UAE heat), wheel misalignment, a seized brake caliper, or different tyre brands on the same axle. Tyre pressure imbalance is the most common cause and the cheapest to fix.

Vague or wandering steering: Worn steering rack, worn tie rod ends, worn steering damper (on 4WD vehicles), incorrect wheel alignment, or worn front suspension bushings. Any of these allow excessive play in the steering system, requiring constant small corrections at highway speed.

Car bounces excessively after bumps: Worn shock absorbers. A shock absorber that no longer damps the spring effectively allows the car to continue oscillating after a bump rather than settling immediately. This is a safety issue at high speed.

Excessive body roll in corners: Worn anti-roll bar links or bushings, worn shock absorbers, or a combination. The anti-roll bar system limits body roll by connecting left and right suspension; worn connecting components allow the car to lean excessively when cornering.

Car dives under braking / squats under acceleration: Worn shock absorbers on the front (dive) or rear (squat). Some body movement is normal but excessive dive or squat indicates worn dampers.

Vibration through the steering wheel at speed: Tyre imbalance (most common), worn wheel bearings, or a bent wheel. Tyre rebalancing resolves most vibration complaints and is inexpensive.

UAE-Specific Causes of Handling Degradation

UAE heat accelerates rubber bushing deterioration, reducing the precision of all suspension pivot points. Speed bumps impose extreme suspension loads that wear shock absorbers, anti-roll bar links, and bushings faster than smooth-road driving. Tyre pressures fluctuate dramatically between cool mornings and hot afternoons due to thermal expansion, causing handling differences at different times of day. Sand ingestion from off-road driving and roadside sand contaminate steering rack seals and ball joints.
