Steering Angle Sensor Calibration UAE — How It Works and What It Costs

4 Jul 2026 2 min read

Steering angle sensor calibration is a procedure required after replacement of the SAS, after a wheel alignment, after steering component replacement, or on some vehicles after a battery disconnect. Without proper calibration, the electronic stability control (ESC) system may remain in a fault state with warning lights on. This guide explains the process and costs in the UAE for 2026.

When Is SAS Calibration Required?

After SAS replacement. After any wheel alignment (the zero point may shift). After replacement of steering components including the rack, column, or intermediate shaft. After battery replacement on some vehicles where the ECU loses its reference data. After a road accident where the steering system was disturbed. When the ESC, traction control, or ABS warning light is illuminated and diagnostic scanning shows a steering angle sensor fault code (C1155, C1300, or similar depending on manufacturer).

How Is SAS Calibration Done?

Static calibration: The vehicle is placed on a level surface with the wheels pointing straight ahead. A diagnostic tool is connected and the calibration procedure is initiated through the ESC control module menu. The tool zeroes the sensor at the current position. This takes 5 to 15 minutes. Dynamic calibration: Some manufacturers require the vehicle to be driven at low speed in a straight line or a figure-eight pattern after the static calibration to complete the procedure. This is common on Toyota and Lexus models.

SAS Calibration Cost UAE 2026

At a specialist workshop with the correct diagnostic software: AED 100 to AED 300 for calibration alone. If performed as part of a SAS replacement or wheel alignment: often included at no additional charge. At a main dealer: AED 200 to AED 500 including diagnostic fees.
