Why UAE Cars Need Different Maintenance Schedules
Standard manufacturer maintenance schedules are designed for temperate climates with moderate driving conditions. UAE driving conditions are significantly more demanding: extreme summer heat stresses cooling systems, engine oil, rubber components, and the battery; heavy traffic in Dubai and Abu Dhabi increases idle time and thermal load on the engine; long desert highway drives between emirates put sustained load on tyres, brakes, and fuel systems; and the high ambient temperature year-round means air conditioning systems operate near constantly, adding load to the compressor, alternator, and belt system.
Monthly Checks for UAE Vehicles
UAE motorists should check the following monthly: engine oil level and colour (black or very dark oil between service intervals in high heat indicates degradation); coolant level in the expansion tank; tyre pressure including the spare (UAE heat causes significant pressure fluctuation and increases blowout risk if tyres are underinflated); windscreen washer fluid level; battery terminal condition for corrosion or white residue; and all exterior lights functioning correctly.
Every 5,000 to 10,000 km Service Items
In UAE conditions, engine oil changes should be performed at 5,000 km for conventional oil or 7,500 to 10,000 km for synthetic oil. At each oil change, also check or replace: engine air filter (UAE dust can clog filters faster than in clean-air climates); cabin air filter; tyre rotation and pressure check; brake pad thickness check; inspection of all belts and hoses for cracking or fraying; and battery voltage test.
Annual and High-Mileage Service Items
Items to service annually or at manufacturer-specified mileage intervals include: coolant system flush and refill; brake fluid replacement (brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and this reduces boiling point, a serious safety concern in UAE mountain and highway driving); power steering fluid check; automatic transmission fluid check; spark plug inspection or replacement; timing belt check (replace per manufacturer schedule); suspension and steering component inspection; and AC system performance check including refrigerant level and compressor condition.
