Car Maintenance Schedule for UAE Summer 2026
UAE summer is the most demanding season for vehicle maintenance. Ambient temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, cabin temperatures reaching 70 to 80 degrees in parked vehicles, and constant air conditioning use create conditions that push every vehicle system to its limits from June through September. Following a summer maintenance schedule prevents the breakdowns that UAE roadsides see in large numbers every summer.
Pre-Summer Checklist for UAE Vehicles
The most important maintenance tasks to complete before the UAE summer peak are: coolant system inspection and top-up, battery load test, tyre inspection, air conditioning service, and engine oil change if approaching the service interval. These five items account for the large majority of UAE summer breakdowns.
Coolant System
Engine overheating is the most common serious breakdown in UAE summer. Before June, check the coolant level in the expansion tank against the minimum and maximum markings with the engine cold. Check the coolant hoses for softness, cracks, or swelling. Inspect the radiator for bent fins or blockages from dust. If the coolant is more than two years old or the colour has gone from bright green or pink to brown, a coolant flush and refill is recommended. Ensure the radiator cap seals correctly by checking the rubber seal for cracking.
Car Battery
A battery that starts the car on a cool morning in January may fail when trying to start a superheated cabin vehicle on a 45-degree July afternoon with the air conditioning demanding maximum current from the moment the engine starts. Have any battery over two years old load-tested before summer. A load test applies a controlled electrical load to the battery and measures the voltage response. A battery that passes a basic voltage test but fails a load test is at risk of surprise failure and should be replaced before summer.
Tyres
Check tyre pressure weekly in summer as tyre pressure increases with heat. Run the manufacturer-specified pressure for hot conditions listed in the door jamb or owner manual. Inspect all four tyres and the spare for sidewall cracking, which indicates the rubber compound has aged and the tyre is a safety risk regardless of remaining tread depth. Replace tyres showing lateral or radial sidewall cracks immediately. Check the tyre date code (last four digits of the DOT number on the sidewall): tyres over four years old should be replaced in UAE regardless of apparent condition.
Air Conditioning
The car AC system runs essentially year-round in UAE and takes on its greatest load in summer when it is fighting 45-degree ambient heat. Before summer, replace the cabin air filter, which should be changed at least annually in UAE due to dust loading. Have a certified workshop check the refrigerant charge and AC compressor belt condition. An undercharged system works harder and is more likely to fail under peak summer load. An AC that blows moderately cool air in April may fail entirely when ambient temperatures peak in July.
Engine Oil
Check engine oil level monthly and before any long journey. In UAE summer, use the engine oil viscosity grade specified by the manufacturer for high ambient temperatures. For most vehicles operating in UAE heat, a 5W-40 or 10W-40 full synthetic oil is appropriate. Do not extend oil change intervals beyond the manufacturer specification in summer conditions.
