The engine management system detects the increased air volume and adds more fuel to match, increasing engine output and vehicle speed. When the driver releases the pedal, a return spring closes the throttle plate. Mechanical cable systems are simple, reliable, and provide direct pedal feel. However, the cable can stretch, fray, or seize over time, particularly in UAE conditions where heat cycles cause the cable sheath to harden and crack.
How Electronic Throttle Control Works in UAE Vehicles
Electronic throttle control systems, found in most UAE vehicles from approximately 2010 onwards, replace the mechanical cable with an electronic pedal position sensor and an electric motor on the throttle body. When the driver presses the pedal, the sensor reads the pedal angle and sends a signal to the engine control module. The module calculates the optimal throttle opening taking into account engine speed, vehicle speed, traction control status, and other parameters, then commands the electric motor to open the throttle body accordingly. Electronic throttle control enables traction control, stability control, and adaptive cruise control integration that is impossible with a mechanical cable. It also allows smooth idle speed management and reduced throttle body wear.

Mechanical cable faults in UAE vehicles include cable stretch that causes sluggish throttle response, fraying that can cause sudden throttle sticking, seized sheaths from heat and disuse, and broken return springs that leave the throttle stuck open. Electronic throttle faults in UAE vehicles include throttle position sensor failures that trigger limp mode, electric motor failures in the throttle body, and wiring corrosion that causes erratic throttle response.
