Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement Cost in UAE 2026

The cylinder head gasket is one of the most critical seals in an engine, sitting between the cylinder head and engine block to seal combustion chambers and prevent coolant or oil from entering the cylinders. A blown head gasket is a serious fault that requires immediate attention. Left unrepaired it can destroy the engine. This guide explains the symptoms, repair process and typical costs in the UAE in 2026.

Signs of a Blown Head Gasket

Warning signs include white or sweet-smelling smoke from the exhaust pipe, a steady loss of coolant with no visible external leak, the engine temperature gauge rising into the red, milky or frothy engine oil on the dipstick, and bubbles visible in the coolant reservoir. Any combination of these symptoms should be taken to a garage without delay.

Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement Cost in the UAE

This is one of the more labour-intensive engine repairs. In the UAE in 2026 typical costs are as follows. For small Japanese and Korean four-cylinder engines the total bill including parts and labour ranges from AED 1,500 to AED 2,500. Mid-size European four and six-cylinder engines typically cost AED 2,500 to AED 4,000. V8 engines and large diesel engines can reach AED 4,000 to AED 6,000 or more. If the cylinder head requires machining or resurfacing due to warping, add AED 300 to AED 800 to the base cost.

What Happens During the Repair

The garage will remove the cylinder head, inspect the mating surfaces and check the head for warping using a precision straight edge. If the head is within tolerance it is cleaned, fitted with a new multi-layer steel gasket and reassembled to manufacturer torque specifications. A cooling system flush and thermostat replacement are recommended at the same time. After reassembly the engine is tested under load to confirm the repair is complete.

How to Avoid Head Gasket Failure in the UAE

The extreme summer heat in the UAE makes overheating a real risk. Keep coolant at the correct concentration and level, replace the thermostat every 60,000 km, and never ignore a rising temperature gauge. Addressing a minor coolant leak immediately is far cheaper than replacing a blown head gasket.
