How to Check Your Car Before a Long UAE Road Trip

Tyres — The Most Important Pre-Trip Check

Brakes and Steering
During a short test drive before departure, check that the brakes apply smoothly and progressively without pulling to one side, noise, or vibration through the pedal. Any of these symptoms indicate worn pads, a sticking caliper, or warped discs that should be inspected before a mountain or desert route where braking requirements are more demanding. Check that the steering wheel returns naturally to centre after turns and does not pull significantly to one side, which would indicate a wheel alignment or tyre pressure issue.
UAE Long-Trip Routes and Specific Considerations
- Dubai to Fujairah (E611 Sharjah-Kalba road): mountain passes with steep descents — ensure brakes are in good condition and do not ride the brake pedal on long downhill sections
- Dubai to Hatta (E44): rough terrain near Hatta Heritage Village — check ground clearance and tyre sidewall condition if visiting off-road areas
- UAE to Oman (Musandam): verify your vehicle insurance covers Oman and carry your vehicle registration card
