UAE Summer Tyre and Wheel Guide: What to Check Before the Heat Hits

5 Jul 2026 3 min read

UAE summer is hard on cars. Ambient temperatures above 45°C, tarmac surface temperatures above 70°C, and long highway drives in extreme heat create conditions that quickly expose any weakness in a vehicle’s tyres, wheels, and running gear. Getting your car’s tyre and wheel setup right before UAE summer is one of the most cost-effective things you can do to avoid breakdowns and unnecessary wear.

Tyre Pressure: The Single Most Important Factor

Correct tyre pressure is the most important tyre-related maintenance item for UAE summer, and the most commonly neglected. Under-inflated tyres in UAE heat generate excessive heat in the tyre sidewalls, accelerating wear and increasing the risk of tyre failure at highway speeds. Over-inflated tyres (which can happen if pressure is set when hot) reduce contact patch and cause centre-tread wear.

Set tyre pressure when the tyres are cold — before driving or after at least 3 hours parked. Use the figure from the door jamb sticker or owner’s manual. In UAE summer, check monthly at minimum; every two weeks is better given the temperature extremes.

Tyre Age and UAE Heat

UAE heat accelerates tyre compound degradation. Industry guidance is to replace tyres no older than 5–6 years regardless of tread depth, and many manufacturers recommend 4–5 years in hot climates. Check the DOT date code on your sidewall (the last 4 digits: week and year of manufacture) to confirm tyre age. Tyres over 6 years old should be replaced in UAE conditions even if tread depth appears adequate.

Wheel Alignment: Prevention Against UAE Roads

UAE road surfaces are generally good, but speed bumps (often poorly marked and inconsistently shaped), kerb strikes in parking, and occasional pothole encounters gradually knock wheel alignment off. Misaligned wheels cause uneven tyre wear, which means a set of tyres that might last 40,000–50,000 km wears out at 25,000–30,000 km. Checking alignment every 10,000–15,000 km pays for itself in tyre longevity.

Nitrogen: A Small but Useful Buffer

As covered in a separate guide, nitrogen-filled tyres show marginally more stable pressure across UAE summer temperature swings due to lower moisture content. If your tyre shop offers nitrogen, it is worth taking up — particularly for drivers who find themselves frequently topping up pressure.

Wheel Spacers for Wider Track on UAE Road Surfaces

UAE highways are wide and well-maintained, making wheel spacers (to improve stance or clear brake callipers) a practical modification for many SUV and 4WD owners. Ensure hub-centric spacers matched to your vehicle are used and fitted professionally with correct stud torque.
