AdBlue Service Cost in UAE 2025

AdBlue (also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF) is a urea-based solution used in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system of Euro 6 compliant diesel vehicles to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Euro 6 diesel vehicles sold in the UAE from approximately 2014 onward require regular AdBlue top-ups as part of routine maintenance. Understanding AdBlue service costs and requirements helps diesel vehicle owners avoid unexpected expenses and engine shutdowns.

How AdBlue Works in Your Diesel Vehicle

The AdBlue system injects a fine mist of the urea solution into the vehicle exhaust stream upstream of the SCR catalyst. The heat of the exhaust converts the urea into ammonia, which then reacts with nitrogen oxides in the catalyst to produce harmless nitrogen and water vapour. The system reduces NOx emissions by up to 90 percent, enabling diesel engines to meet strict Euro 6 emission standards. AdBlue is stored in a separate tank, typically located near the fuel filler cap or under the boot floor, with a blue filler cap.

AdBlue Top-Up Cost in UAE

AdBlue fluid is widely available across the UAE at ADNOC and ENOC petrol stations, hypermarkets, and automotive shops. Retail prices range from AED 25 to AED 60 per litre. A typical top-up of 5 to 10 litres costs AED 150 to AED 600. The AdBlue tank capacity varies from 10 litres on smaller vehicles to 25 litres on large SUVs and pickup trucks. Most vehicles consume 1 to 2 litres per 1,000 km, so a full tank typically lasts 10,000 to 20,000 km. UAE summer driving, with frequent air conditioning use and higher engine loads, can slightly increase consumption.

AdBlue System Service and Repair Costs in UAE

If the AdBlue warning light illuminates and the tank level is adequate, the issue is usually with the AdBlue quality sensor, the injection pump, or the injector nozzle. AdBlue quality sensor replacement costs AED 300 to AED 800. AdBlue pump replacement costs AED 800 to AED 2,500. AdBlue injector replacement costs AED 500 to AED 2,000. SCR catalyst replacement, required if the catalyst has been damaged by a contaminated fluid or a prolonged system fault, costs AED 3,000 to AED 15,000 depending on the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover, and Volkswagen diesel vehicles carry the highest AdBlue system repair costs due to OEM parts pricing.

AdBlue System UAE Service Intervals

AdBlue does not have a fixed service interval; consumption is usage-based. Most vehicle owners in the UAE need to top up AdBlue every 15,000 to 25,000 km, or approximately once per year for typical mileage. The vehicle will display a warning countdown showing the remaining range before the tank is empty. It is best practice to top up when the warning first appears rather than waiting until the tank is fully depleted, as the engine will be immobilised once the AdBlue is exhausted.
