Brake Drum Replacement Cost in UAE

Brake drums are used in rear drum brake systems on many smaller vehicles and some four-wheel-drive models. When the drum surface wears below minimum thickness, becomes scored, or warps from heat, braking performance drops and the drum must be replaced. Brake drum replacement in the UAE costs between AED 200 and AED 600 per axle (both rear drums) at certified garages, including parts and labour.

Drum Replacement Prices by Vehicle Type

Japanese and Korean vehicles (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia) with standard rear drum brake systems have drum replacement costs in the range of AED 200 to AED 400 per axle using quality aftermarket drums from suppliers such as Brembo, ATE, and TRW. Light commercial vehicles, minivans, and budget SUVs with rear drums are in the AED 250 to AED 500 range. Older rear-wheel-drive vehicles and some trucks with larger drums are at AED 400 to AED 700 per axle due to higher part costs and more involved disassembly.

What Else to Replace When Changing Brake Drums

Brake shoes should always be replaced when drums are replaced in the UAE. Existing shoes are worn and shaped to the old drum profile and will not bed correctly to new drums, causing reduced braking performance and uneven wear. Brake shoe replacement adds AED 150 to AED 300 per axle. The wheel cylinder (the hydraulic piston that pushes the shoes against the drum) should be inspected for leaks. Leaking wheel cylinders cause the brake fluid to contaminate the shoe friction material, rendering the shoes ineffective. Wheel cylinder replacement adds AED 100 to AED 250 per cylinder. A complete rear drum brake overhaul (drums, shoes, wheel cylinders) costs AED 500 to AED 1,000 per axle at most UAE garages.

Can Drums Be Resurfaced?

Brake drums can be resurfaced (skimmed on a lathe) if sufficient material remains above the minimum usable diameter specification. Resurfacing costs AED 50 to AED 150 per drum and is cost-effective if the drums are not at minimum thickness. Once at minimum thickness, replacement is mandatory. UAE garages typically check drum thickness before recommending replacement or resurfacing.
