4×4 Maintenance Checklist for UAE Owners (2026)

UAE 4×4 vehicles — particularly the Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero, and Ford Expedition — lead the UAE vehicle market and face unique maintenance requirements from the combination of UAE summer heat, desert sand, and the mix of tarmac and off-road use that most UAE owners put their vehicles through.

Every Service (5,000-10,000 km)

Engine oil and filter change using the correct UAE-specification fully synthetic oil. Check and top up all fluids: coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid (if hydraulic), differential fluid levels (check the level plug on each differential housing), and windscreen washer fluid. Inspect tyres for damage, embedded stones, and abnormal wear patterns. Check tyre pressures when cold and correct to manufacturer specification. Inspect brake pads for wear through the inspection slots in the calliper. Check battery condition and terminal corrosion (UAE heat kills batteries in 2-4 years).

Every 40,000-60,000 km

Differential and transfer case oil change (use the correct grade for each unit — front and rear differentials and the transfer case may require different oil grades). Spark plug replacement (on petrol-engined 4x4s). Fuel filter replacement. Air filter inspection and replacement if clogged. Coolant flush and refill. Brake fluid flush (hygroscopic brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, lowering boiling point — UAE heat makes this critical). Inspection of all driveshafts, CV joints, prop shaft universal joints, and axle seals. Use GarageBuddy to find UAE garages specialising in 4×4 and SUV maintenance.
