Car AC Regas Cost in UAE 2026: R134a and R1234yf Refrigerant Price Guide

3 Jul 2026 2 min read

A working car AC is not optional in the UAE — it is a survival necessity. When your car AC stops cooling adequately, a refrigerant recharge (commonly called a regas) is often the first and cheapest fix. This guide covers car AC regas costs across the UAE in 2026 and explains what is included in a proper AC service.

R134a vs R1234yf — Which Refrigerant Does Your Car Use?

The type of refrigerant your car uses has a significant impact on regas cost:

  • R134a: Used in most cars manufactured before 2017. Affordable and widely available in UAE. A standard regas with R134a costs AED 60–200.
  • R1234yf: Mandatory in EU cars manufactured from 2017 onwards and increasingly common in newer UAE-market vehicles. R1234yf gas itself is 5–10x more expensive than R134a per kilogram, making a regas cost AED 200–400 or more.

To find which your car uses, check the label on the refrigerant service port (usually under the bonnet near the AC compressor) or your owner manual. Never mix refrigerant types.

Is Regas Enough or Is There a Leak?

Car AC systems are sealed — refrigerant should not naturally deplete. If your AC needs regassing, there is almost always a leak somewhere. A proper AC service includes:

  • Leak detection using UV dye or electronic leak tester
  • Identifying and repairing the leak source (O-ring, condenser, compressor seal)
  • Vacuuming the system to remove air and moisture
  • Recharging to the exact manufacturer-specified amount

Simply topping up refrigerant without fixing the leak is a short-term fix that will fail again, often within 6–18 months in UAE conditions.

How Often Should I Service My Car AC in UAE?

Most manufacturers recommend annual AC checks in hot climates. For UAE owners:

  • Get an AC check and cabin filter replacement every 12 months before summer
  • If AC cooling drops off, get a leak test before simply regassing
  • UAE heat wears compressor belts faster — inspect annually

Find an AC specialist: AC regas in Dubai or AC regas in Abu Dhabi.
