Car Care During UAE Summer: How to Protect Your Vehicle from the Heat in 2026

UAE summer temperatures regularly exceed 45 degrees Celsius with road surface temperatures reaching 70 to 80 degrees. This extreme heat accelerates wear on rubber components, degrades battery performance, stresses the cooling system, and affects tyre safety. This guide covers the most important summer car care steps for UAE vehicle owners in 2026.

Battery Health in Summer

Car batteries suffer accelerated wear in extreme heat. High temperatures cause internal battery fluid to evaporate faster, corroding the plates inside and reducing capacity. A battery that performs adequately in winter can fail without warning in UAE summer heat. Have your battery load-tested before the summer months, typically in April or May. Batteries older than 3 years in the UAE climate should be proactively replaced rather than waiting for a failure that leaves you stranded. Battery replacement costs AED 250 to AED 600 for most vehicles.

Cooling System Maintenance

The cooling system is under its greatest stress in UAE summer. Ensure the coolant level is correct and that the coolant concentration is suitable for high ambient temperatures. Check the coolant condition annually, as old coolant loses its corrosion inhibitor properties and allows the aluminium components of the cooling system to corrode internally. Inspect coolant hoses for cracking or softening, which are signs of heat degradation. A complete coolant flush costs AED 150 to AED 300 and should be done every 2 years or per the manufacturer schedule.

Tyre Condition and Pressure

Tyre pressure increases by approximately 1 PSI for every 6 degrees Celsius rise in ambient temperature. In the UAE summer, tyre pressures checked indoors in an air-conditioned space will be several PSI lower than when the tyre has heated up on a hot road. Check tyre pressure when the tyres are cold and set to the recommended level. Inspect tyre tread depth and sidewalls for cracking. Under-inflated or degraded tyres are at high risk of blowout at UAE highway speeds in extreme heat.

AC System Service

The AC system runs continuously in UAE summer and any degradation in cooling performance is immediately noticeable. Have the AC system serviced before summer with an AC regas and compressor check. Replace the cabin air filter annually to maintain air quality and airflow. A properly functioning AC system is not a luxury in UAE conditions but a driver wellbeing and alertness essential.

Parking and Interior Protection

Park in shade or a covered car park whenever possible to reduce cabin temperature and protect the dashboard, steering wheel, and upholstery from UV damage. A reflective windscreen shade reduces cabin temperature by up to 20 degrees and protects the dashboard from cracking. Leather and vinyl interiors should be treated with UV-protective conditioner every 3 months. Tinted windows approved within UAE limits reduce heat gain and protect interior materials significantly.
