Car Half Shaft Replacement Cost in UAE 2024

4 Jul 2026 3 min read

What Is a Half Shaft?

A half shaft, also called a CV axle or drive axle shaft, transmits power from the differential to the driven wheels on front-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, and some rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Each driven wheel has its own half shaft with constant velocity (CV) joints at each end that allow the shaft to flex as the suspension moves and the steering turns.

Half Shaft Replacement Cost in UAE

Half shaft replacement in the UAE costs AED 350 to AED 1,200 per side for most common vehicles. This range covers the cost of the replacement half shaft or remanufactured CV axle, and the labour to remove the old shaft and install the new one. The differential side and wheel hub side must both be disconnected, and the shaft pressed or pulled free. Japanese and Korean mainstream vehicles tend to sit at the lower end of the cost range. European vehicles and some American models carry higher parts costs.

Factors Affecting Half Shaft Cost in UAE

The main cost driver is whether an OEM, aftermarket, or remanufactured shaft is used. OEM shafts from dealers cost AED 600 to AED 1,500 or more per side. Quality aftermarket shafts from brands such as GSP, NTY, or MOOG cost AED 180 to AED 500. Remanufactured CV axles at AED 150 to AED 350 are the most affordable option but carry a shorter expected lifespan in UAE heat and dust conditions. Labour time varies by vehicle, ranging from 30 minutes on straightforward designs to over 2 hours on complex AWD setups.

Signs Your Half Shaft Needs Replacement

A clicking or clunking sound from the front of the vehicle when turning at low speed is the classic sign of a failing CV joint on the outer end of the half shaft. A vibration felt through the car at highway speeds can indicate a damaged inner CV joint. A torn CV joint boot, which allows grease to escape and contaminants to enter, is an early-warning sign that should be addressed before the joint itself fails. In UAE conditions, road dust and sand accelerate joint wear once the boot is compromised.

How to Save on Half Shaft Replacement in UAE

If only the CV boot is torn and the joint itself is not yet damaged, a boot-only replacement at AED 80 to AED 200 per boot can extend the life of the original shaft. However, once clicking or vibration is present, full shaft replacement is the correct repair. Using a quality aftermarket shaft rather than dealer-priced OEM is the most common cost-saving approach for UAE motorists without sacrificing reliability.
