Car Oil Sump Replacement Cost in UAE 2026
The oil sump (also called the oil pan) is the reservoir bolted to the bottom of the engine that stores engine oil when the engine is not circulating it. If the sump is cracked, punctured by road debris, or has a corroded drain plug thread, the engine will lose oil rapidly, leading to catastrophic engine seizure. This guide covers oil sump replacement costs across UAE emirates in 2026.
Oil Sump Replacement Cost by Emirate
| Emirate | Sump Only (Gasket Repair) | Full Sump Replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai | AED 150 – 400 | AED 500 – 1,800 |
| Abu Dhabi | AED 140 – 380 | AED 480 – 1,700 |
| Sharjah | AED 130 – 360 | AED 450 – 1,600 |
| Ajman | AED 120 – 340 | AED 420 – 1,500 |
| Ras Al Khaimah | AED 120 – 320 | AED 400 – 1,400 |
| Fujairah | AED 110 – 300 | AED 380 – 1,300 |
| Umm Al Quwain | AED 100 – 280 | AED 360 – 1,200 |
Why Do Oil Sumps Fail in UAE?
- Road debris and speed bumps: UAE roads have many speed bumps (particularly in residential areas). Low-clearance vehicles can strike a speed bump hard enough to crack or puncture the aluminium oil sump. Gravel on desert roads also causes impacts and underside damage.
- Corroded or stripped drain plug: Repeated oil changes with over-tightened or under-tightened drain plugs can strip the sump threads. In UAE’s heat, aluminium sump threads are particularly vulnerable to stripping.
- Gasket failure: High under-bonnet temperatures in UAE accelerate oil sump gasket degradation. A failed gasket causes an oil leak visible as a puddle under the car or a burning oil smell when oil drips on the hot exhaust.
Oil Sump Gasket vs. Full Sump Replacement
Not every oil leak from the sump area requires a full sump replacement. If the sump itself is undamaged but the gasket has failed, a UAE garage can remove the sump, clean the mating faces, and refit it with a new gasket and sealant. This is significantly cheaper than replacing the whole sump. However, if the sump pan itself is cracked, dented, or the drain plug thread is stripped beyond repair, full replacement is necessary. A helicoil thread repair insert is also an option for stripped drain plugs, costing far less than a new sump.
