Car Steering Pulling to One Side in UAE: Causes and Fixes
A car that pulls or drifts to one side when you release the steering wheel is one of the most common complaints from UAE drivers. It is also one of the most misdiagnosed: pulling is a symptom with multiple possible causes, and fixing the wrong component wastes money without solving the problem. This guide explains how to systematically identify the cause.
Tyre Pressure (Check This First)
Unequal tyre pressure is the most common and most overlooked cause of pulling in UAE. A tyre that is significantly under-inflated on one side creates more rolling resistance on that side, pulling the car in that direction. Check all four tyre pressures before anything else. In UAE summer heat, tyres can lose pressure faster than in cooler climates, and many drivers do not check pressures regularly enough.
Wheel Alignment
Misaligned front wheels are the second most common cause. If the front toe, caster, or camber is unequal side-to-side, the vehicle will pull toward the side with more positive camber or less toe-in. Alignment goes out of specification after hitting a kerb, a major pothole, or a hard speed bump impact. A UAE vehicle should have a four-wheel alignment check every 20,000 km or after any significant impact.
Tyre Wear and Condition
A tyre that is significantly more worn on one side than the other, or that has a belt shift (internal structural damage), will cause pulling. Comparing tread depth across all four tyres can identify this. A belt-shifted tyre cannot be corrected by alignment and must be replaced.
Brake Dragging
A sticking brake caliper on one side causes pulling when braking but also creates a continuous drag at highway speeds. The affected wheel feels hot to touch after driving. A seized caliper piston or slide pin is the usual cause. UAE summer heat makes seized brake components more common.
Steering and Suspension Wear
Worn tie rod ends, control arm bushings, or a bent suspension component can all cause pulling that cannot be corrected by alignment alone. If wheel alignment checks out correct but the vehicle still pulls, a thorough suspension inspection is the next step. Use GarageBuddy to find suspension specialists across all seven UAE emirates.
