Car Vibration Causes in UAE: What That Shaking Means

Car vibration is one of the most frequently reported issues at UAE garages. The source of vibration varies greatly — from something as simple as an unbalanced tyre to a failing drive shaft or brake rotor. Understanding where the vibration occurs and under what conditions helps narrow down the cause quickly.

Tyre Imbalance

The most common cause of vibration felt through the steering wheel at highway speeds (typically 80-120 km/h) is tyre imbalance. As UAE highway speeds are often in this range, tyre-induced vibration is extremely common. The fix is a simple tyre balancing service, typically AED 100-200 for all four wheels.

Wheel Alignment Issues

Poor wheel alignment causes vibration felt through the steering wheel and can cause the car to pull to one side. UAE speed bumps and kerb impacts knock wheels out of alignment frequently. Wheel alignment costs AED 100-200 and is recommended every 10,000 km or after any significant kerb or pothole impact.

Worn Tyres or Uneven Tyre Wear

Cupped or scalloped tyre wear — caused by worn shock absorbers or struts — creates a consistent vibration at all speeds that does not improve with balancing. The tyres need replacement and the underlying suspension issue must be addressed to prevent the same wear pattern recurring.

Brake Disc Warping

Vibration or pulsation felt specifically when braking points to warped brake rotors. In UAE, frequent hard braking from high speeds and the temperature cycling of intense heat cause rotors to warp. The brake pedal will pulsate and the steering wheel may shake during deceleration. Rotor replacement or machining resolves this.

Worn CV Joints or Drive Shaft

Vibration during acceleration, especially at lower speeds, combined with clicking on turns points to a failing CV joint. Drive shaft imbalance causes a vibration that is proportional to vehicle speed.

Engine or Transmission Mount Wear

Vibration felt at idle or on acceleration that seems to come from the engine bay can indicate worn engine or transmission mounts. Mounts degrade faster in UAE heat and with heavy AC use.

When to Act

Vibration that appears suddenly or worsens rapidly should be investigated immediately. Use GarageBuddy to find diagnostic specialists across all seven UAE emirates.
