How to Keep Your Car Wheels Looking New in the UAE

24 Jul 2026 2 min read

Your car’s wheels take more abuse in the UAE than almost anywhere else. Kerb damage, desert sand, salt air near the coast and the heat all take their toll on alloy wheels. Here’s how to keep them looking sharp.

The Main Threats to Wheels in the UAE

Kerb damage: Narrow multi-storey car parks and tight urban roads are a constant hazard. A single kerb scrape can leave a deep gouge in an alloy rim. Most garages can fill and repaint minor scrapes for AED 80–AED 200 per wheel — far cheaper than a replacement.

Sand and brake dust: Fine desert sand blasts into wheel finishes, and brake dust — particularly from high-performance vehicles — is highly corrosive. Regular cleaning with a pH-neutral wheel cleaner prevents pitting and staining. Avoid using the same cloth on your wheels and your paintwork.

Corrosion from coastal humidity: In Abu Dhabi and Dubai coastal areas, salt air accelerates corrosion on bare metal. A good wheel sealant applied twice a year keeps wheels protected.

When to Repaint vs. Replace

Repainting is viable when damage is surface-level — scrapes, faded finish, or minor pitting. If the wheel is cracked, buckled, or structurally compromised, replacement is the only safe option. Never drive on a cracked alloy wheel.
