Why Car Windows Stop Working in UAE and How to Fix Them

5 Jul 2026 3 min read

Power window failures are among the most common electrical faults reported by UAE vehicle owners. The extreme heat, combined with the constant temperature differential between the air-conditioned interior and the scorching exterior, places the window regulator mechanism and motor under greater stress than they would experience in almost any other market. This guide explains why windows fail in UAE conditions and what to do about it.

How the Power Window System Works

Each power window consists of an electric motor, a regulator mechanism that converts motor rotation into vertical glass movement, guide channels that keep the glass aligned, and a set of switches and wiring that control the system. The system also includes an anti-pinch protection circuit on most modern vehicles that stops the window if it detects resistance. When any of these components degrade or fail, the window operation becomes slow, noisy or stops entirely.

Why UAE Heat Causes Window Failures

In a vehicle parked in direct UAE summer sun, interior temperatures can reach 70 to 80 degrees Celsius. The door cavity, which contains the window regulator, reaches similarly extreme temperatures. Nylon sliders that guide the regulator arm harden and become brittle. Lubricant on the cable and pulleys dries out. The motor insulation degrades at a faster rate. Rubber seals in the window channels stiffen, increasing the force the motor and regulator must apply to move the glass. All of these factors combine to shorten the service life of power window components significantly compared to vehicles operated in cooler climates.

Common Power Window Failure Modes in UAE

The most common failure is a broken regulator cable or cracked nylon slider that causes the window to drop into the door or stick partway. This is recognised by a motor that runs but the glass does not move. A burned-out motor is the second most common fault, resulting in no sound at all when the switch is pressed. Switch failure, often caused by corrosion of the switch contacts from moisture ingress during UAE humidity events or car washing, results in intermittent operation. Wiring chafing in the door hinge area from repeated door opening and closing is a less common but frustrating fault that can be difficult to locate without experience.

Preventive Maintenance Tips

Lubricating the door window channels with a silicone-based spray every 6 to 12 months reduces the load on the regulator and motor significantly. Parking in shade or using a windshield sun shade reduces interior temperatures and extends the life of all interior components including window mechanisms. Avoiding operating the windows when the car first starts on a very hot day, when lubricants are at their thinnest and components at their most thermally stressed, is also beneficial.
