UAE summers are brutal on cars. Temperatures regularly hit 45–50°C, road surfaces bake, and the combination of dust, humidity, and extreme heat accelerates wear across nearly every system. This checklist covers everything you need to do before and during summer to keep your car running reliably.
Why Summer is Different in UAE
The UAE summer (June–September) creates four distinct stresses for your car:
- Heat: Engine, battery, and tyres all degrade faster above 40°C ambient
- Humidity: Coastal areas (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman) see 80–90% relative humidity — corrosion accelerates
- AC load: Your AC runs at near-maximum capacity for 4–5 months straight
- Dust and sand: Fine Shamal dust clogs filters and scores surfaces
UAE Summer Car Checklist
1. Air Conditioning Service
Your AC is the most critical system in UAE summer. Book an AC service before temperatures peak (ideally April–May):
- Replace cabin air filter (should be done every 10,000–15,000 km in UAE conditions — more frequently than elsewhere)
- Check refrigerant level and regas if needed
- Inspect compressor, condenser, and evaporator for leaks
- Check AC belt tension and condition

2. Coolant System Check
Engine overheating is a real risk in UAE summer, particularly in stop-and-go city traffic:
- Check coolant level and condition (should be bright, not brown/rusty)
- Inspect radiator for clogging or damage
- Check radiator fan operation
- Inspect hoses and clamps for cracks — UV and heat accelerate rubber degradation
- Consider a coolant flush if it’s been 2+ years
3. Battery Inspection
UAE heat is the number one killer of car batteries. The average battery life in UAE is 2–3 years versus 4–5 years in Europe. Signs of a failing battery:
- Slow cranking in the morning
- Dashboard battery or charging light
- Battery older than 2 years
Get the battery load-tested (not just voltage-checked) at a garage. A battery that tests 12.4V sitting still but drops to 10V under load needs replacement. Find a battery replacement specialist near you.
4. Tyre Check
Hot road surfaces dramatically increase tyre blowout risk. Never ignore these:
- Check tyre pressure when cold (heat increases pressure by 4–8 PSI — always check cold, never deflate a hot tyre)
- Inspect tread depth (minimum 1.6mm legal, 3mm+ recommended for UAE summer)
- Check for cracking or bulging on sidewalls — UV causes rubber to crack even if tread is fine
- Inspect spare tyre — often forgotten until needed

5. Engine Oil
In UAE heat, engine oil breaks down faster. If you’re on a conventional oil, switch to a full synthetic rated for high temperatures (5W-40 or 5W-50 for most UAE cars). 6. Brake Inspection
Brakes work harder in stop-and-go summer traffic. Have pads and discs inspected if you haven’t done so in 20,000 km. Brake fluid should also be checked — it absorbs moisture over time, and in UAE humidity this happens faster than in dry climates. Find a brake specialist near you.
7. Wiper Blades
UAE rain is rare but intense, and when it comes the roads flood quickly. Wiper blades degrade rapidly in summer sun; dried, cracked blades smear rather than clear. Replace blades before the October–November rain season.
8. Exterior Protection
- Park in shade whenever possible — interior temperatures in a parked car can reach 80°C, degrading dashboards, door panels, and electronics
- Use a windscreen sun shade to protect the dashboard and reduce interior heat
- Wash the car regularly — mineral deposits from water (especially in hard water areas like Al Ain) etch paintwork if left
- Consider ceramic coating or PPF for long-term UV and heat protection
