How Heat Kills Car Batteries
Heat causes the electrolyte inside a lead-acid battery to evaporate, corroding the internal plates and reducing capacity. A battery that would last five years in Europe may fail in under two years in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Even modern AGM batteries used in start-stop vehicles are vulnerable to sustained heat exposure.
Warning Signs Your Battery Is Struggling
Watch for slow engine cranking when starting, dimming headlights at idle, or your battery warning light appearing on the dashboard. If your car has been sitting in outdoor parking for hours in summer and won’t start, the battery is likely the culprit.
What to Do
Get your battery load-tested at least once a year, ideally before summer. A load test checks whether your battery can deliver enough current to start the engine under stress — a simple voltage reading alone won’t catch a failing battery. Park in the shade or an underground car park where possible, and consider a battery with a higher cold cranking amp (CCA) rating for better heat resilience.
